Not enough steady flow through the wash system, so the heater will not switch on.
Model compatibility: Viking reuses codes across series and model years, so 3-2 may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.
Plain language
What this code means
The control sees insufficient or inconsistent water flow and does not allow the flow-through heater to activate.
Why the control watches flow
Running a heater with no water passing through it is hazardous, so Viking has the control keep an eye on flow. Low or erratic flow keeps the heater off and puts 3-2 on the display: Pots/Pans blinks three times, Normal Wash twice.
What the technician’s list contains
Eleven lines are given. Lines one to seven concern supply, installation and filters:
Supply turned fully on.
Fill hose free of kinks.
Cabinet level in both directions.
Filters not blocked.
House water pressure steady.
Drain line with its high loop.
Right amount of water in the tub.
The VDB325/VDB450 manual stops at five, whereas the VDB451/FDB451, FDB301 group and VDB200 manuals continue to seven.
Line eight describes a service feature: keep the Normal Wash button pressed for 10 seconds and extended fill is enabled. Nothing more is explained, and Viking does not offer this as an owner reset, so use it only while you follow the list with the manual in hand.
Lines nine, ten and eleven are parts: the wash motor, then the water inlet valve, then the main control.
Model hint
The VDB451 table lists 3-2 under “service cycle only.” The VDB325/450 manual marks it as well, adding “200 only.” From the scan it is unclear which entry that note belongs to; take it as a sign that the model number matters.
If the supply and filter items come out clean, call (310) 692-1112. For our Los Angeles customers we ask which checklist lines you tried, plus the code and model number. See the dishwasher repair page too.
Important safety warning. Do not attempt repairs involving electrical components, gas, water lines, refrigerant or sealed systems. Unplug the appliance if it is safe to reach the outlet, and leave internal diagnostics to a qualified technician.
