The control did not see the fill it expected, so 2-2 was set.
Model compatibility: Viking reuses codes across series and model years, so 2-2 may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.
Plain language
What this code means
A fill error: the pressure sensor does not reach target pressure during a fill, or on models without the sensor the expected temperature change does not occur.
Meaning of 2-2
When Pots/Pans blinks twice and Normal Wash blinks twice, the control never saw the water arrive. Most of Viking’s list covers the supply side, so go to the tap before the machine.
No-tool checks
Open the supply valve to the dishwasher all the way.
Follow the fill line and look for kinks.
Level the cabinet in both directions (VDB451 and VDB325/450 manuals).
Consider whether pressure at the house has dropped; the manual treats it as a separate check.
VDB200 wording differs: “fill time-out.” The technician verifies water pressure, then confirms the inlet hose and the water valve are unrestricted.
Two ways of detecting a fill
Model type
Detection
Parts named after the checks
Pressure sensor (VDB451/FDB451, VDB325/VDB450)
Sensor output reaches a target pressure during filling
Pressure sensor, control; VDB325/450 also the inlet valve
No pressure sensor (FDB301 group)
The tub fill should cause a temperature change; none suggests no water came in
Thermistor, control
On the 200 Series the VDB451 manual says the water temperature sensor also acts as the water input sensor.
Where a technician steps in
Good supply, hose and levelling leave electrical suspects: the sensor, the control and the inlet valve coil, which the VDB451 manual puts near 1.1K ohms. Those tests involve line voltage and are not a homeowner job.
Putting it in order
Work from the tap inward. Start with the shutoff valve, then the hose between valve and dishwasher, then the levelling, and only then consider water pressure in the house. Anything beyond that point involves the sensor, the valve or the control, and those tests involve line voltage. The VDB325/450 manual lists the inlet valve, while the VDB451 manual lists the sensor and control.
Once the tap and hose are ruled out, phone (310) 692-1112 in Los Angeles. Tell us the model number, the 2-2 code and what you inspected on the supply side. More is on the dishwasher repair page.
Important safety warning. Do not attempt repairs involving electrical components, gas, water lines, refrigerant or sealed systems. Unplug the appliance if it is safe to reach the outlet, and leave internal diagnostics to a qualified technician.
