Error code 1-1
Appliance Dishwasher
Quick answer

Code 1-1 flags an abnormal moisture sensor reading, with wiring, the sensor or the board as the listed causes.

Model compatibility: Viking reuses codes across series and model years, so 1-1 may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.

Plain language

What this code means

The base-pan moisture sensor gives a reading outside its normal range, and the manuals name loose wires, a bad sensor or a bad control board.

Quick facts about 1-1

  • Signal: one blink on the Pots/Pans light, one blink on the Normal Wash light.
  • Component: the moisture sensor in the base pan, the tray beneath the tub.
  • Meaning: the control gets a sensor value that falls outside the healthy range, much like an unplugged sensor would give.

This is not the same event as actual water in the pan. A sensor that really detects moisture makes the machine stop filling and run the drain pump, and that is reported separately.

Causes in the manuals

  1. Wires to the sensor have come loose or disconnected.
  2. The sensor is defective.
  3. The control board is defective and misreads a working sensor.

For the VDB200, the manual has the technician verify the connection and then measure resistance. Measuring the sensor is a hands-on job at the base of the machine. The VDB451 manual puts the expected value near 175K ohms between the sensor’s two terminals.

What an owner can do

Hardly anything is reachable, since the sensor lives in the base pan. Turn the power off at the breaker and check the floor and the cabinet base nearby for signs of a leak. If the unit was recently moved or worked on, say so when you phone. A code that comes back after the power is cycled needs a technician to test the sensor and its harness.

Related codes

  • 2-1 is another disconnected-signal fault, this time on the pressure sensor.
  • 5-4 appears when the control sees current draw while no load is running, which is a separate electrical reading.
