The detergent dispenser circuit shows abnormal current.
Model compatibility: Viking reuses codes across series and model years, so 4-3 may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.
Plain language
What this code means
Dispenser current sense is out of range.
A cup in the door holds detergent until the right point in the cycle, then the dispenser releases it. 4-3 appears when the control finds the current drawn by that circuit out of range.
What the manuals list
Wires disconnected between the main control and the dispenser.
A faulty dispenser.
A faulty main control.
Every Viking dishwasher manual with this code gives the trio in that sequence. According to the VDB200 manual, a technician checks the connections and expects roughly 8.3 ohms; the VDB451 manual states 8.3 ohms between a pair of pins on the control board plug. In the VDB451 and FDB301 charts the code is flagged in the service-cycle column.
Diagnostic cycle note
Since the diagnostic cycle opens the dispenser too, a technician is reminded in the manual to shut the soap cup first.
Where the dispenser sits
In Viking’s parts layout it is part of the door assembly, next to the latch interlock and the control panel. Power from the control is what opens the cup during a cycle.
Owner points
Confirm the cup closes fully with nothing blocking it. This is common sense, not something the manuals give as a cause.
Detergent still sitting in the cup after a cycle has its own entry in Viking’s troubleshooting guide: a blocked compartment, aged detergent or a dispenser not opening properly.
Leave the door panel, wiring harness and the dispenser’s electrical connection to a technician.

4-4: the inlet valve, with the same type of current test
Important safety warning. Do not attempt repairs involving electrical components, gas, water lines, refrigerant or sealed systems. Unplug the appliance if it is safe to reach the outlet, and leave internal diagnostics to a qualified technician.
