The control measured a drain pump current outside the expected range.
Model compatibility: Viking reuses codes across series and model years, so 3-3 may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.
Plain language
What this code means
The drain pump current sense is out of range.
3-3 is an electrical message
It is easy to mistake this for 1-5, but they differ. A 1-5 means water stayed in the tub. A 3-3 means the electrical current seen on the drain pump circuit lies outside the range the control accepts.
What the manuals suggest
Loose wiring from the main control to the drain pump.
A faulty drain pump.
A faulty main control.
In the VDB200 manual the action line also covers the pump: test its resistance and inspect it for something lodged inside.
Technician numbers
VDB451: measured at its connector, the pump should be near 15.1 ohms.
Zero ohms: replace the pump.
A correct reading: remove the pump and inspect for an obstruction.
Diagnostic mode, per that manual, powers each component in sequence during a service cycle of about six and a half minutes, opening with an 85-second drain.
The owner’s part
Small, because the thing being measured is electrical. Describe what you see. If the tub keeps water as well, the technician needs to know both the drain route and the pump circuit might be at fault. If the tub empties fine yet the code shows, say that.
Related codes
1-5: leftover water, with owner checks on hose, disposer plug and filters.
4-4: a similar current measurement, but on the inlet valve.
4-3: the same type of measurement on the detergent dispenser.
