Error code 2-4
Appliance Dishwasher
Quick answer

Code 2-4: the sump water level reads above the high limit.

Model compatibility: Viking reuses codes across series and model years, so 2-4 may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.

Plain language

What this code means

The pressure sensor indicates a water level above the high-level threshold.

About 2-4

Two blinks on Pots/Pans, then four on Normal Wash. The sensor reports sump water above Viking’s upper limit.

Real or imagined?

Both are possible. Water standing in the tub when a stage finishes is a drain matter, and code 1-5 holds Viking’s items for it: hose, disposer plug, high loop, levelling and filters. A tub that looks normal suggests the sensor or the control is giving a wrong reading, which only a technician can sort out.

What the service tables list

  1. Excess sump water, where the wording asks you to confirm items are secured in the rack.
  2. Pressure sensor defect.
  3. Main control defect.

The VDB451/FDB451 and VDB325/VDB450 manuals end the list there. The older VDB200 and FDB301 group documents have no 2-4.

A low-risk routine

  • Breaker off, door open.
  • Check the bottom of the tub. According to Viking’s troubleshooting guide, a little water around the filters is normal.
  • Check dishes are fixed in place and nothing presses on the spray arms.
  • Restore power and run a short cycle.

A second 2-4 means stop here, since checking the sensor and board requires panel removal.

Related

  • 2-3: the opposite reading, a level too low.
  • 1-5: water left over after the drain stage.
