What you notice
Rapid short beeps that last past 16 seconds, followed by F1 on the display, are how a Viking gas oven announces that its own control board has found a fault. The board is the ERC (electronic range control), behind the keypad.
Manual wording
In the service notebook for the VGDO271 double gas oven, F1 reads: control malfunction, replace ERC.
A second page, on component testing, also says to test the mylar touch pad system.
No owner cause list is given, and nothing outside the control is blamed.
The one reset
Viking states that some F-codes clear when OFF/CANCEL is touched or power to the range is disconnected. Note the code, press OFF/CANCEL, and when it will not go, switch the oven off at the breaker for a moment and turn it back on. A returning F1 means the manual wants a servicer called, with the supply left off in the meantime.
Why it is not a home repair
Changing the ERC involves removing the control panel and dealing with the ribbon cable while electrical and gas supplies are off. That is a technician’s task on a gas appliance.
