Er47 shows on the adapter board display when the program stored on it is not the one the cooktop needs.
Model compatibility: Viking reuses codes across series and model years, so Er47 / 5 flashes then pause may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.
Plain language
What this code means
Five LED flashes and a pause, with Er47 on the seven-digit display, mean the interface adapter board holds the wrong configuration program (C1-C6).
The signal
The element LEDs flash five times, then pause.
The seven-digit display on the interface adapter board reads Er47.
According to Viking’s service menu sheet for its induction modules, the fix is to confirm that the right program is loaded in the adapter board. Nothing in the sheet describes a worn-out part here.
Programs C1 to C6
An adapter board can carry any one of six configurations, matched to the burners it controls. Boards are supplied already programmed for each domino layout. If the exact replacement is unavailable, a different board can be reprogrammed in service mode.
C5: VISC5304 left, VICU206 and 266 left; 210/145 mm, 3.7 kW
C6: VICU266 right; 145/210 mm, 3.2 kW
The sheet gives one worked case. A VICU266 center module that shows C5 is carrying the wrong program, because the center position calls for C4.
Why the owner stops here
Changing the program means disconnecting the cooktop from power, getting at the adapter board so its display can be seen, and then following a knob sequence that must be finished within 120 seconds after power returns. Some models need the landing ledge taken off or the cooktop lifted out of the counter. When the download completes, the display goes dark.
Codes that look alike
5 flashes without the pause and without Er47 is the ambient temperature signal.
